After winning a nerve wrecking match against Brighto Punjab in Pakistan Cup where 3 runs were required of last 2 deliveries and Rahat Ali took a wicket and bowled a dot ball and also Zia-ul-Haq conceded 2 runs of 49th over. Younis Khan(YK) was smiling as usual and boosting up his team mates.
YK: these guys (Rahat & Zia) are around the domestic cricket for long time now and they know themselves well. I am here to tell them what is it? What you are meant to do and what are you doing?
Being asked about his run out decision YK was of the view that
we should not make a big fuss about it, what happened is happened but we should
look forward to improving thing in domestic cricket and PCB/broadcaster should
introduce DRS in domestic and every facility which is available at
international level should be available here as this is premier domestic one
day tournament.
But match referee has fined Younis Khan 50% of match fee on talking about flaws in the system. News is coming out that Younis khan has decided to leave the Pakistan Cup in reaction to fining.
After losing 1st match to Misbah’s Islamabad which was a low scoring match. ISB needed 210 of 43 overs (D/L) with the likes of Sharjeel Khan, Kamran Akmal, Nasir Jamsheed and Misbah in the top order but Younis’s KPK manage to drag that match to last over where U-19 player rescued his team (ISB). In post-match YK said; I was keeping the team engaged and convincing them not to give up and teaching them to always fight till the end which they did and we came this close to winning but unfortunately didn’t cross the line.
With the announcement of Pakistan Cup, PCB announced 5 team captains
and coaches and leaves them with the list of 150 players which they picked
though draft system. Younis Khan selected only 4 those players who has played
for Pak international team in any format in 15 player squad initially which is
the least by any team. While Sindh & Balochistan picked 11 such players each and Punjab
& Islamabad 9 such players each which make Younis Khan XI under dogs of
this year Pakistan Cup but Abdur Rehman (also coaching Peshawer
Panther/Region/Zalmi) is coaching KPK is well reputed and know for wining
trophies with underdog teams and with Younis Khan (who loves to play with young
team to teach them a few things) makes a lethal combination. But as news has
come out of Younis Khan leaving Pakistan Cup is not good for Pakistan cricket
and especially for KPK team which mostly depends on YK leadership &
experience.
