Pakistan’s Politics

Before 1947, Sub-continent being governed by British from whom we got our political system which was pretty good at the start. Political parties having their ideologies and were stuck to it along to work for the welfare of its fellow citizens. But after certain period something went wrong or we have these germs left inside so deep that it took time to re-surface again that of being governed by someone or follow personalities not ideology which turned the great political (ideological) Parties to a monarchy (being run by a single family).
Sub-continent is one of the few region where this happened as Congress and Muslim League has been buried and their name plat are being used as a license to do politics and in Pakistan it is clear evidence of that every politician consider it party as their personal property which should be a public property. When someone leaves a party or being expelled from his party, they start their own party naming after the previous one with an addition of his surname or last name. We have almost a dozen Muslim Leagues and half a dozen PPP’s. Thanks God in last election Aftab Sherpao re-registers his own party as Qaumi Wattan Party while abandoned his old PPP (Sherpao) & now there is one less PPP. When will this madness ends? For sure u want to do politics let assume for the welfare  of your fellow citizen so why not start with unique name why to copy other one.

Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) work as regulator for our political system. ECP having 162[1] registered political parties. Few are politically organized but a few are actually mainstream political parties. Those who called themselves mainstream on national level is not well organized and those who are well organized on national level are not proving themselves as mainstream as they are failing again and again in polls at every level.

One of the most redundant thing political parties do in campaign is preparing and declaring manifesto as their voters don’t care what they have announced in manifesto and they also don’t care about their own manifesto because here in Pakistan comparing the government work with their manifesto is not one of the criteria for re-election. As much I understand, illiteracy and less political awareness is main reason for this.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) is the only exception where they also don’t care much about manifesto but they do demand performance and development. If any MNA/MPA is sincere to its constituency, he can win election as many times as much he contest like Aftab Sherpao in Charsadda, Abdul Akbar Khan in Mardan who successfully withstand to every opponent. Ameer Haider Hoti(Ex CM) who was only MNA for ANP in 2013 election had secured both his seats i-e provincial and national assembly while entire ANP was wipe out in KP in 2013 election because he had delivered in his constituency not in entire province as CM.

People in KP don’t care much about personalities which they do care about is performance and development which makes KP the most politically diverse province of Pakistan. Local Government election is clear evidence of it. Select any two cities for comparison visit and analyze it. You will understand it. For my Article I will take District Peshawar and Mardan. PTI was able to form government in Peshawar where they started major development after taking charge of government in KP while in Mardan three parties’ coalition managed to form government where ANP was leading them as home town of Ex-CM who did most of the development in the city. In Peshawar ANP also have stalwart like Bilour Family and PPP have Arbab family but they failed as people voted on their performance not following any one party and the same goes with rest of province. This is also why one party didn’t manage to form government again.

In other provinces, case is much different as they do follow personalities not any ideology or not like KP, vote on performance base. For example, Sindh where PPP is selling the same manifesto from its inception but no actual work on the ground and people still coming and voting them as they are currently doing in ongoing Local Bodies Elections (LBE). Despite of the fact that NAB and FIA are doing corruption investigation in almost every provincial department with the assistance of Rangers.

But this is how our fellow voters votes and after election we curse those are in government.
